Anjelica Selden Named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA freshman pitcher Anjelica Selden has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for May 10-14, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Washington junior Aimee Minor was named the Conference Player of the Week.
Selden, from Vacaville, Calif., held a 0.41 ERA with a 2-0 record, 18 strikeouts and a walk in three appearances last week. On the week, opposing batters hit .111 against Selden. In a relief appearance against Oregon on May 12, Selden retired all 15 batters she faced while pitching five perfect innings and striking out six. On May 13 against No. 6 Oregon State, she pitched a three-hit shutout in UCLA's 9-0 win over the Beavers. Selden struck out four and did not issue a walk. She followed that with a complete game eight-strikeout performance in the 5-1 win over the Beavers on May 14, allowing only three hits.
Minor, from San Jacinto, Calif., led the Huskies with a .714 aveage (5-for-7) with two runs, a triple, a home run and six RBI. She boasted a 1.429 slugging percentage and an .800 on-base percentage after drawing four walks. Minor went 2-for-3 in the 9-0 upset victory over No. 6 Oregon State on May 12. She drove in four runs, hit a triple, stole a base and scored one run. She went 1-for-1 against Oregon on May 13, hitting a single and walking twice. On May 14, Minor went 2-for-3 with her 15th home run of the season, 2 RBI, a walk and a stolen base.
This is the second weekly honor for Minor and the fourth for Selden. The awards are the 55th and 89th all-time honors for the Huskies and Bruins, respectively.
UCLA (30-16) returns to action on Friday afternoon when the Bruins play host to NCAA Regional 7. The two-time defending NCAA Champion Bruin open tournament play at 2:30 on Friday afternoon against Loyola Marymount at Easton Stadium.
