Pac-10 Names All-Conference Teams

Walnut Creek, Calif. - In a vote of the league's eight head coaches, Arizona outfielder Caitlin Lowe and Washington catcher Kristen Rivera were named Co-Pacific-10 Conference Softball Players of the Year. Oregon State's Brianne McGowan was named Pitcher of the Year, UCLA freshman Anjelica Selden was named Newcomer of the Year and Stanford shortstop Lauren Lappin received Defensive Player of the Year honors. Coach of the Year was awarded to Oregon State's Kirk Walker, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Lauren Lappin, a junior from Anaheim, Calif., ranks second in the league in runs scored with 49 and sixth in hits with 54. She is ranked 17th nationally in runs per game. The 2004 second-team All-American leads Stanford with 174 assists and has been invited to participate in the 2005 National Team Selection Camp, June 13-17, at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

Lappin, along with teammates Catalina Morris (Senoita, AZ) and Michelle Smith (Agoura Hills, CA) were honored as first-team All-Pac-10 selections. Senior catcher Leah Nelson (Oakland, CA) was a second-team honoree while freshman pitcher Becky McCullough (Moraga, CA) and sophomore outfielder Jackie Rinehart (Reno, NV) were honorable mention picks.
