Shaw Leads Trojans On First Day Of NCAA West Region

Junior Bradley Shaw shot was 1-under while sophomore Joshua Wooding and junior Taylor Wood were both 2-over to lead the USC men's golf team on the first day of the NCAA West Region at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif., on Thursday (May 19).
The Trojans shot a combined 286 (+6) to finish the first day tied for sixth. The top 10 of 27 teams competing at each of the three regions advance to the NCAA Championships June 1-4.
BYU leads the field at 278 while Pepperdine is one back at 279.
Shaw finished his team-low round with birdies on 12, 15 and 17 for a 69, good for a fifth-place tie. Wooding and Wood had three birdies apiece and turned in 72s. Senior Ben Hayes also had three birdies en route to a 73 while junior Tyler Ley birdied twice during his round of 74.
The Region continues Friday and Saturday (May 20-21). USC is scheduled to tee off between 12 and 12:36 p.m. on Friday.
