FRESNO - Paige Paramore's three-run double in the sixth inning lifted BYU to a 3-1 victory over No. 2 Cal in their NCAA Tournament regional softball opener late Thursday night at Fresno State.

The Bears (46-12), who have advanced to the Women's College World Series title game the past three years, now must win four straight games in two days just to advance out of the regional.

Cal starter Kristina Thorson had a no-hitter through five innings, but Lauren Watson-Perry and Krystle Chamberlain opened the sixth with singles for BYU (45-12). A wild pitch advanced the runners, and Thorson issued a two-out intentional walk to Ashlyn Russell, setting up Paramore's big hit.

The Bears scored in the second inning. Chelsea Spencer drew a one-out walk, went to second on Emily Friedman's single and scored on a two-out single by Alex Sutton.
