UW's Dubbins & DePalma Earn All-Region Rowing Honors
May 20, 2005
SEATTLE - University of Washington senior Janelle Dubbins received first-team accolades and junior Allison DePalma was a second-team selection in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Region teams announced Friday.
The awards, presented by Pocock, recognize the outstanding accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains this season. Thirty-nine schools are represented nationally on the all-region squads. Varsity eight boats ranked in the top six regionally received automatic selections for their respective nominees. A coxswain was selected from schools within each region for both first and second-team representation.
A product of Robert Service High School in Anchorage, Ak., Dubbins rows in the No. 3 seat on the Huskies' 13th-ranked women's varsity eight crew. DePalma is also a member of Washington's top women's crew, rowing in the No. 5 position. She is from San Jose, Calif.
The Huskies are preparing for the NCAA Rowing Championships that take place, May 27-29 on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif. UW is one of just four schools to qualify for the NCAA women's regatta every year.
The 2004-05 Regional Coaches of the Year were also selected. The award is intended to recognize a coach from each region that had outstanding success during the 2005 season, or demonstrated great team improvement from the 2004 season, and demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity. The five coaches selected were Dave O'Neil (California) from the West Region, Lori Dauphiny (Princeton) from the Mid-Atlantic Region, Will Porter (Yale) from the New England Region, Matt Weise (Michigan State) from the Midwest Region, and Kevin Sauer (Virginia) from the South Region.
