Brooke Bishop Wins 50 Free At Stanford University Invitational Grand Prix

Stanford, Calif. - Current Stanford swimmer Brooke Bishop (2005-06 sophomore) captured the 50 free in a personal-best time of 25.91 on the second day of the 2005 Stanford University Grand Prix at the Avery Aquatic Center. The inaugural three-day long-course meters meet that runs through Sunday is being hosted by Stanford men's and women's swimming and Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics (PASA). The event is the first of four stops on the U.S. Grand Prix circuit.
Bishop also had a second-place effort in the 200 back in a time of 2:16.59.
Stanford affiliates took three of the top seven spots in the 400 free with Elizabeth Durot's (2005-06 sophomore) third-place showing in 4:21.95 to lead a trio that also included 2005-06 juniors Morgan Hentzen (5th, 4:23.11) and Desiree Stahley (7th, 4:27.03, 4:24.20 prelims). Lauren Costella, also a junior in 2005-06, was 19th in the bonus finals in a time of 4:29.58.
Caroline Rodriguez (2005-06 sophomore) was 14th in the consolation finals of the 200 back (2:27.41, 2:28.15 prelims), while Stahley took 18th in the bonus finals of the 50 free (27.92).
Individual event winners other than Bishop included Ariana Kukors (200 IM, 2:16.18) and Megan Jendrick (100 breast, 1:08.01) of King-PN, Kate Ziegler of the Fish-PV (400 free, 4:13.86) and Mary Descenza (200 back, 2:15.40) of the Athens Bulldog Swim Club.
An Athens Bulldog Swim Club foursome of Anna Miller, Lindsey Ertter, Haley Chura and Descenza captured the 800 free relay in 8:27.85.
