Babos Victorious in NCAA Singles Round of 64

Athens, GA - Cal freshman Suzi Babos, ranked No. 8 in the nation, defeated No. 30 Kim Coventry of Kentucky in the Round of 64 at the 2005 NCAA Championships individual tournament. With the win, Babos advances to tomorrow's Round of 32, facing the winner of this afternoon's match between No. 32 Theresa Logar of Stanford and Texas' No. 54 Petra Dizdar.
Babos dropped the first set to Coventry, but rallied in the final two sets, winning the match, 3-6; 6-4; 6-1. The victory is the freshman's 33rd of the year, and comes on the heels of two wins picked up during NCAA Championships team play.
Babos was named the ITA National Player to Watch last night, adding to a growing list of accolades which include being named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and first team All-Pac-10.
Singles tournament action continues tomorrow at Georgia's Dan McGill Tennis Complex.
