How did you get involved in crew? I developed a shoulder injury after 10 years of competitive swimming and was forced to quit. I knew I still wanted to be athletic so my swim coach suggested rowing. I started with a local club team and I've been hooked ever since.
Why did you choose to come to Cal? Cal is an excellent academic school with an excellent rowing program - the best of both worlds.
At the beginning of the season, what is the one thing you most look forward to? Racing with teammates that I know I can trust to go hard.
What did you dread most about coming to Cal? I didn't dread anything, but I knew that Cal had a really great team when I committed to coming here and I was scared that I wouldn't live up to the expectations.
What is your pre-race routine/superstition? I'm confident enough in my teammates that I don't need to do anything extra on race day beforehand. When we arrive, we are ready to go.
What are the last 3 CD's you bought? I don't recall, but I'm sure that they were all country.
If you were stranded on a desert island, who would you bring with you, and what 3 things would you want to take? I would take my boyfriend, Kyle, because he's a geography major which could be useful. I would bring ... let's see, I could answer this practically but that wouldn't be any fun, so ... probably some tanning oil, a beach chair, and a margarita - live it up while it lasts, right?
What is your greatest achievement in crew? Winning Pac-10's in 2004.
What do you do in your spare time? Read, spend time with family, travel if possible.
If you could trade places with anyone (celebrity or not) who would it be and why? I wouldn't want to trade places with anyone. I've worked too hard to get where I am and I am pretty happy with my life and where it's heading.
Who/what inspires you? My mom. She has always gone the extra mile to serve others and has had to overcome some pretty amazing feats in her life. I love her and respect her very much.
What is the one song/band that you think should be banned from the erg room? Outkast. I can't take them anymore. Seriously, how can anyone?
What are your plans for the summer? After NCAAs, shoulder surgery #2, rehab, and lots ofresting/reading/watching movies I haven't had time for. Hopefully a trip to Arizona and North Carolina and starting to learn a foreign language.
