Five Rowers Selected As 2005 National Scholar Athletes
May 24, 2005
Five members of the UCLA Women's Rowing team were selected by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) to be 2005 National Scholar Athletes. Seniors Kristin Bixel, Monica Grova, Jessica Rogers, Emina Ong, and sophomore Elizabeth Lee were selected to be five of the 142 student-athletes chosen for the award.
This award recognizes student athletes who maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA, and have raced in at least 75% of their team's 2005 spring races. In addition, the award is only given to upper classmen (2nd, 3rd and 4th years). 49 schools from around the country are represented by this award. UCLA was one of only seven schools who had five or more rowers selected for this award.
All five of the rowers selected for the award are members of the varsity eight crew that is preparing for the NCAA Championships to be held May 27-29 on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, CA. The Championships will be hosted by Sacramento State, with 16 schools being represented at this event.
