Logar and Yelsey Advance to Round of 16

Athens, Ga. - Sophomores Theresa Logar and Anne Yelsey both advanced to the NCAA Singles Championship Round of 16 with wins this afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia. Stanford's two doubles teams also won this afternoon and will compete tomorrow afternoon in the Round of 16, tomorrow afternoon.
Logar picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win over Cal's 37th-ranked Suzi Babos today, her ninth win over a ranked opponent this season. Logar will face her former Stanford teammate, No. 14 Story Tweedie-Yates of TCU in the second round. The two met earlier this season at the ITA/Riviera All-American Main Draw in October, with Tweedie-Yates taking a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the Round of 16.
On Monday, Yelsey, the Cardinal's No. 6 singles player, knocked off Georgia's No. 1 player Shadisha Robinson in straight sets, and today she eliminated Wake Forest's No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Karin Coetzee in the Round of 32. Tomorrow, she will take on Baylor's top player, No. 23 Zuzana Zemenova.
Yelsey also advanced to the Round of 16 in the Doubles Championship along with Amber Liu, the two-time NCAA Singles Champion. The duo defeated Vanderbilt's Audra Falk and Amanda Taylor, 6-2, 6-2. Yelsey and Liu will face Whitney Benik and Lolita Frangulyan of Florida in the second round tomorrow.
Alice Barnes, who was knocked out of the singles draw earlier today, came back to win her opening match in doubles with senior Erin Burdette. The Cardinal co-captains defeated Lindsay Deason and Mihaela Moldovan of Florida State, 6-3, 6-4. The duo will face the No. 1 seed in the tournament, Georgia's Caroline Basu and Shadisha Robinson tomorrow.
