CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State's baseball team will hold a scrimmage and fan appreciation activities Friday evening at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The game will begin at 5 p.m.; afterward, fans are welcome to meet the Beavers, get autographs and have pictures taken with players.
OSU (41-9 overall, 19-5 Pacific-10), ranked No. 4 in this week's USA Today/ESPN coaches poll and assured at least a share of the Pac-10 championship, are idle until the NCAA Regionals, to be held June 3-6. The scrimmage will be held under game conditions, with the Beavers' starting pitchers expected to throw a few innings.
'It's a chance for our guys to get some work while we aren't scheduled for games this weekend,' OSU head coach Pat Casey said. 'We also wanted to do something to thank our fans for the support they've given us, not just this season but in past seasons, as well. They're a big part of why we are where we are right now.'
Oregon State is now idle until the NCAA Regionals, to be played June 3-6. Oregon State is hoping to be selected as one of 16 host schools for the NCAA Regionals, which are four-team double-elimination tournaments. The 16 sites will be announced on Sunday, May 29 at 12:30 p.m. and the announcement will televised on ESPN2; the entire 64-team bracket will be announced Monday, May 30 at 8:30 a.m. and the announcement will be televised on ESPN2.
