May 24, 2005
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Three UCLA hurlers combined to allow just three hits but UC Riverside used three unearned runs to defeat the Bruins, 3-2 Tuesday night at the Riverside Sports Complex. Right-handers Brant Rustich and Kevin Brophy along with lefty Brendan Lafferty each allowed just one hit while striking out six Highlanders in the loss.
UCLA falls to 15-38 with the loss with UCR improves to 26-26.
The Bruins headed into the ninth down 3-1 and put the potential tying run on second base but pinch runner Jonathan Medici was thrown out at home on pinch-hitter Hector Ambriz' one-out single. The hit did score Tommy Lansdon from third but still left UCLA one run short. Anthony Clagget earned his fourth save of the year by retiring Will Penniall to end the game.
