Three Huskies Invited to U.S. Rowing National Team Camp

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - University of Washington seniors Scott Gault, Kyle Larson and Brett Newlin were among 15 collegiate athletes invited by USRowing to attend the men's open weight national team selection camp in Princeton, N.J., men's head coach Mike Teti announced.

The athletes will be competing for spots on either the 2005 World Championships squad and/or the 2005 Under 23 World Championships team. The camp will begin on June 6 at the Princeton Training Center.

The 2005 Under 23 World Championships will be held July 21-24 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, while the 2005 World Championships will be held August 28-September 4 in Gifu, Japan.

Gault is a graduate of Piedmont (Calif.) High School who rows in the No. 2 seat on Washington's undefeated junior varsity crew. The Huskies' second boat seeks to defend its national title at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships, June 2-4 in Cherry Hill, N.J.

A product of Mount Vernon (Wash.) High School, Larson rows in the No. 2 seat in UW's varsity eight crew. Newlin, from Riverton (Wyo.) High School, occupies the No. 4 position.

The Huskies' fourth-ranked varsity eight vies for the national title at the IRA championships after placing second in each of the last two years.
