May 26, 2005

UCLA gymnast Kate Richardson and water polo player Emily Feher have been selected to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII University Division Women's At-Large First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Both Richardson and Feher will be added to the national ballot as candidates for Academic All-America honors.

Richardson, a junior from Coquitlam, BC, is a Physiological Science major with a 3.731 cumulative grade point average. The 10-time All-American helped lead UCLA to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships and to the Pac-10 title. She had season-bests of 39.625 in the all-around, 9.975 on vault, bars and beam and 9.925 on floor while averaging over 9.81 on all four events. She placed fourth on beam and 12th on floor at the 2005 NCAA Championships, and in the summer of 2004, she became the first UCLA female gymnast to make an Olympic team and the first Canadian woman ever to qualify for the Olympic final on floor exercise. Richardson earned third-team Academic All-America honors in 2004 as a sophomore.

Feher, a sophomore from Santa Ana, CA, is a Psychology major with a 3.717 GPA. The 2005 MPSF Goalkeeper of the Year led UCLA to an undefeated 33-0 season and the team's third NCAA title in the last five years. Feher earned first-team AWPCA All-America and All-MPSF honors and led the conference with a 4.17 goals against average. With her in the net, UCLA had the nation's lowest team goals allowed average, 4.0. Also in 2005, Feher scored her first collegiate goal and had 24 assists and 14 steals. She helped the U.S. Junior National Team win a gold medal at the Junior World Championships in January.

Junior golfer Susie Mathews of Adelaide, Australia made the second-team with a 3.59 GPA in Communication Studies.
