PULLMAN, Wash. - Aron Baynes has signed a National Letter of Intent to play men's basketball at Washington State University next fall, Cougar Head Coach Dick Bennett announced, Thursday.
'We are excited to have Aron join the Washington State program,' WSU Associate Head Coach Tony Bennett said. 'He is a quality person, student and player. He is attending The Australian Institute of Sport which has produced some excellent players for the last several years.'
Other players that have attended the Australian Institute of Sport and gone on to play Division I basketball include Andrew Bogut (Utah), Aaron Bruce (Baylor) and Alex Loughton (Old Dominion).
A native of Cairns, Australia, Baynes is a 6-foot-10, 245-pound center who was the Queensland North State Representative in 2002 and 2003. In addition, he was a member of the Queensland Australian Basketball League under-23 state championship team in 2003.
'Aron is a true five man who will bring legitimate size and a physical presence to our program,' Tony Bennett added. 'We believe his best basketball is ahead of him and are excited to add him to our Cougar basketball family.'
