Huskies Force Game Three At Super Regionals

ANN ARBOR, Mich-- Washington (35-21) used six hits including home runs by freshmen Caitlin Noble and Lauren Greer to hand No. 1 Michigan (59-5) just its fifth loss of the season and force game three in the best-of-three Super Regional. The game will begin today at 2:08 pm (PST) with the winner advancing to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. Washington won the coin toss and will be the home team in the deciding game.
The Huskies took the early lead in the bottom of the second inning with a two-out home run by Noble that landed in the centerfield trees. It marked the second home run of the season for Noble and just the 12th surrendered by UM ace Jennie Ritter this season and first of the postseason.
Michigan responded in the top of the third with its first hit, a solo home run by Tiffany Haas, to tie the game at 1-1.
The Wolverines threatened in the fourth, loading the bases with three hits, but Noble used a pop-out to the shortstop and a fielder's choice to get out of the jam unscathed.
Washington took the lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring an unearned run on a two-out error. Kristen Rivera drew a lead off walk and was sacrificed to second base by Sarah Hyatt. Rivera was replaced by pinch runner Jessica Wilkinson and she scored on a throwing error by shortstop Jessica Merchant to give UW the 2-1 lead.
The Huskies tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning with a lead off home run by Greer. It marked Greer's first hit of the postseason and her sixth home run of the season. Washington loaded the bases with a double by Dominique Lastrapes, a single by Ashley Charters and intentional walk to Rivera. Aimee Minor flew out to left field to end the inning with the Huskies leading 3-1.
Michigan cut Washington's lead to 3-2 with a solo home run by Grace Leutele that cleared the bleachers in right centerfield but the Wolverines would get no closer as Ashley Boek came into the game in relief in the seventh and closed it out to earn her second save of the season.
Noble (15-8) earned her first postseason win as she gave up two runs on seven hits and a walk, while striking out five. Boek allowed no runs and no hits with one strikeout in one inning.
Ritter (32-2) took the loss as she gave up three runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out 10.
