Arizona State Selected As Host Site For NCAA Baseball Regionals

TEMPE, Ariz. ( -- Arizona State University was selected Sunday as one of 16 regional host sites for the 2005 NCAA Baseball Championships.

The Sun Devils are currently 33-22 overall and tied for third place in the Pac-10 with USC at 14-9 heading into the season finale today at 1 p.m. against Washington State.

'We are very excited to get this opportunity to host a regional at Packard Stadium,' said 11th year head coach Pat Murphy. 'It is a true testament to our fans to consistently have the top attendance marks on the west coast and have shown great support for our program throughout the year. We've played in front of some great crowds on the road this season and seen how other teams feed off that enthusiasm. We hope our fans will come out and support the Sun Devils and make Packard Stadium the place to be this weekend.'

The four-team, double-elimination regional will be played at Packard Stadium on the ASU campus June 3-6. The No. 1 seed will play the No. 4 seed and the No. 2 seed will play the No. 3 seed starting Friday with times to be announced. The brackets for the Field of 64 will be announced Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. on ESPN.

This marks the fourth time in the last six years that ASU will host a regional, but the first time hosting at Packard Stadium since 2000. ASU also hosted in 2002 at Hohokam Park in Mesa and in 2003 at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

Ticket information for the regional will be posted on ASU's official athletic website,, Monday morning. The regional host site announcement guarantees ASU's 29th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and eighth in the last nine years.
