TEMPE, Ariz. -- - Arizona State scored five runs in the first two innings and made them stand up in a 7-2 win over visiting Washington State Sunday in a Pacific-10 Conference baseball game at Packard Stadium.

ASU, now waiting a post-season bid, finished the regular season 34-22 overall and 15-9 in Pac-10 play. ASU entered the weekend series ranked 22nd nationally.

Zach McAngus and Jim Murphy each colleted two hits for the Cougars, while Kaeo Rubin and Jay Miller each drove home one run in WSU's two-run fifth inning.

Rubin's grounder, which was thrown away by ASU second baseman Vinny Biancamano, accounted for WSU's first run in the fifth, allowing Scott Suttmeier to race home. Later in the inning Jay Miller's ground out to second allowed Rubin to score the Cougar's final run.

Andrew Romine, Willy Fox and Colin Curtis led the Sun Devils offensively, collecting seven of ASU's 11 hits and driving home five of their seven runs.

Fox got things started in the first inning, lashing a single through the left side of the infield to score Jeff Larish and Travis Buck. In the second inning the host club added three more runs for a 5-0 lead. Curtis had the key hit, a bases loaded single that scored two runs. The third tally of the inning came home during a rundown between first and second that ended with Curtis being tagged out by Suttmeier at second base.

ASU added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to close out the scoring. Curtis drove home his third run of the game with a groundout to shortstop in the fourth, while ASU's final run in the sixth also scored during a run down between first and second that resulted in Fox being tagged out trying to steal second.
