ASU's 10-Run Sixth Downs WSU 16-6

TEMPE, Ariz. -- - Arizona State pushed across 10 runs in the sixth inning to capture a 16-6 Pacific-10 Conference baseball win over visiting Washington State Saturday evening at Packard Field.

Brett Bordes (5-5), the third of five ASU pitchers, picked up the win for the Sun Devils, now 33-22 overall and 14-9 in conference play. Starter Wayne Daman Jr. (7-6) took the loss for Washington State, now 21-36 overall and 1-22 in league action. Travis Webb, Eric Dingwall Dustin Willis saw relief action for the Cougars

Jay Miller, Brady Everett, Jim Murphy Zach Franklin and Matthew Thomas each collected two hits for the Cougars, who led 6-3 until the Sun Devil's uprising in the sixth inning. WSU banged out 13 hits, while ASU had 14.

Jeff Larish was one of several hitting stars for ASU, belting his league-leading seventeenth home run in the seventh inning to drove home three runs. He also had a three-run double in the sixth. Travis Buck, Colin Curtis and Seth Dhaenens also had two hits for the Sun Devils.

WSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third when Jay Miller scored on Murphy's single. ASU then went up 3-1 in the fourth inning when Tuffy Grosewisch lined a bases loaded double to left center, scoring all three runners.

The Cougars answered with three more runs in the fifth inning for a 4-3 lead., Zach McAngus had a two-run triple and scored on Franklin's single. In the sixth, Murphy ripped a two-run single, extending WSU's lead to 6-3.

The two teams conclude the three-game series and WSU's 2005 action Sunday in a 1 p.m. game at Packard Stadium.
