Women's Crew Places 11th At NCAA Championship

Rancho Cordova, Calif. - After three full days of racing, the Stanford Women's Varsity eight finished 11th overall. The Cardinal advanced as the second place boat out of the heat on Friday after finishing second behind California. In the semifinal on Saturday the Stanford boat finished 5th to advance to Sunday's second level final.

In Sunday's Petite final the Cardinal faced Brown, Michigan, Washington , USC, and Tennessee. The Cardinal came off the line in the fourth position and then moved into third by the midway point just ahead of Michigan. The Cardinal eight found itself in a tough battle in the second half of the race. Michigan picked up third and USC nipped the Cardinal by 0.16 seconds at the line to put the Cardinal in 5th finishing ahead of sixth place Washington.

This marks the final race for seniors Kelly Garneski and Missy Fiesler. Garneski earned second-team west region coxswain and National-Scholar athlete honors this season. Fiesler earned first-team west region honors.
