ALexandra Lucio Honored for Achievement On and Off the Course

Corvallis, Ore. - Oregon State University student-athletes Alexandra Lucio, Lamar Hurd and Janelle Joy have been named to the 2005 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar team, the Black Issues in Higher Education announced.
Lucio, from Bogota, Columbia lettered four years for the women's golf program. She was a second team All-Pac-10 Conference Academic selection last season; the conference has not announced this year's recipients.
Hurd, from Houston, will be a senior on the men's basketball team for the 2005-2006 season. He won the program's Ed Lewis Award for leadership after starting his third consecutive year at point guard. Hurd also earned Pac-10 Conference All-Academic honors at the conclusion of the recent season and was an honorable mention pick after his sophomore year.
Joy, from Milwaukie, Ore., was an honorable mention All-Pac-10 Conference Academic pick this season. The soccer forward lettered four years and also was an honorable mention academic selection last year.
To be a member of the Sports Scholar Team, individuals must be students of color who have made achieving both academically and athletically a winning combination. Students must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.20.
