Emilsson Named CoSIDA Academic-All District for Cross Country/Track & Field

Junior Erik Emilsson has been named to the 2004-05 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America University Division I Men's All-District VIII Cross Country/Track and Field Team, selected by CoSIDA. Emilsson, an Economics major with a 3.34 GPA, is one of 10 student-athletes named to the team.

Emilsson has had an impressive season for the Bruins and will head to Sacramento with 13 other athletes to compete in the NCAA Championships next weekend. At West Region, Emilsson placed fifth in the steeplechase, running the second fastest time of his career in rain-soaked conditions (8:42.16). At Pac-10, Emilsson earned All-Conference honors after his third-place finish in the steeple (8:43.50). At Mt. SAC Relays, Emilsson ran a personal-best 8:40.40, one of the top-10 times in the nation.

All-District VIII Team: Jess Baumgartner, Southern Utah (3.916, Chemistry); Kai Clark, Oregon (3.94, Biology); Erik Emilsson, UCLA(3.34, Economics); Steve Holland, Long Beach State (3.96, Business); Eric Logsdon, Oregon (3.28, Business Finance); Will Merchad, UC Davis (3.90, Managerial Economics); Chad Sanada, Southern Utah (3.946, Chemistry); Matt Scherer, Oregon (3.63, Business Administration); Gabriel Wallin, Boise State (3.87, Economics); Andy Young, Oregon (3.81, Physiology/Chemistry/Business).

The ten student-athletes named to the All-District team will now be placed on the national Academic All-America ballot. The 2004-05 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America University Division Men's Cross Country/Track and Field Team will be announced June 21.
