Jenna Timinsky Earns First-Team Academic All-District VIII Honors for Cross Country/Track & Field

UCLA sophomore Jenna Timinsky has been named to the 2004-05 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII University Division Women's Cross Country and Track & Field team, selected by the Collegiate Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA).

Timinsky (Encinitas/San Dieguito Academy), a linguistic anthropology major with a 3.84 grade-point-average, is one of 10 student-athletes named to the All-District VIII team and they will now be placed on the national Academic All-America ballot. The 2004-05 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America University Division Women's Cross Country/Track & Field team will be announced later this month.

In track this spring, Timinsky qualified for the NCAA West Regional in the 1500m (4:25.95) and at the Pac-10 meet, she placed ninth (4:30.63). Her personal-bests are 2:06.26 (No. 9 in UCLA history) in the 800m and 4:23.88 in the 1500m.

Last fall, Timinsky helped lead the Bruins to the 2004 NCAA Cross Country Championship meet, where UCLA placed 27th in the team standings and she was the team's No. 6 runner. Timinsky was UCLA's No. 4 runner at the NCAA West Region and No. 2 runner (21st/21:44/6000m) at the Pac-10.

Academically, Timinsky was a first-team Academic All-Pac-10 selection in 2004 cross country and track and field. In 2003 cross country, she was a second-team Academic All-Conference selection.

Joining Timinsky on the All-District VIII Academic team are - Washington State senior Rachel Bertholf (3.74 marketing), Fresno State senior Katie Christianson (3.79 biology), Portland senior Julie Elliott (3.63 nursing), Arizona State senior Jennifer Kowacz (4.00 fine arts), Boise State sophomore Miruna Mataoanu (3.85 business), California senior Brooke Meredith (3.21 American studies), San Diego State senior Marie Nilsson (3.95 international security conflict and security resolution), Southern Utah senior Maegan Schmutz (3.95 family and consumer science) and Washington senior Kate Soma (3.50 business administration).
