Trojans Tack Three Tennis Players To 2005 All-America List

June 3, 2005

Three Trojan tennis players have received All-American accolades after strong 2005 singles seasons.

For the seventh straight year, the Women of Troy are represented on the ITA All-America singles list, as freshmen Nicole Leimbach and Lindsey Nelson capped off their debut seasons with All-American honors.

On the men's side, USC sophomore Jamil Al-Agba became the first male Trojan since 2002 to be named an ITA All-American.

The USC women ended the season ranked No. 7 in the nation by ITA, thanks in large part to the efforts of Leimbach and Nelson. Eighth-ranked Leimbach (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the Pac-10 Player of the Year after winning the Pac-10 singles title. She fell in her first-round match at the NCAA Division I Women's Singles Championships to finish the 2005 season with a 32-10 singles record.

Nelson (Villa Park, Calif.) reached the Round of 16 at the 2005 NCAA Singles Championships, closing out her freshman season with a 35-8 overall singles record. Nelson also was a 2005 All-Pac-10 first team selection and is ranked No. 16 in the nation.

Al-Agba (Camarillo, Calif.) led the Trojan men to a No. 21 national ranking by making appearances in both the singles and doubles competition at the NCAA Division I Men's Championships. The sophomore earned his first All-American honors with a No. 20 individual ranking after winning a first-round match in the NCAA singles action and finishing 17-17 in singles play. He also was a Pac-10 second-team selection.
