June 4, 2005
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Two members of the two-time defending NCAA Champion UCLA softball teams have been named second-team All-Americans by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Junior Caitlin Benyi was named a second-team All-American at second base, while freshman pitcher Anjelica Selden was an at-large selection to the second team.
Benyi, a first-team All-American at second base a year ago, is currently leading the Bruins with a .357 batting average, .675 slugging percentage, .466 on-base percentage and 13 home runs on the season. Selden, a freshman from Vacaville, Calif., has tossed a UCLA record 439 strikeouts this season and holds a 1.12 ERA with a 27-12 record.
The Bruins have won their first two games at the 2005 NCAA Division I Women's College World Series and will take the field at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium on Sunday at noon (CT) against either Arizona or Texas. The Bruins need to win one game of a potential doubleheader in order to advance to the Championship Series.
