California Eliminated from WCWS

June 4, 2005

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - A single by Arizona right fielder Allyson Von Liechtenstein in the bottom of the 12th inning scored second baseman Callista Balko to give the Wildcats a 3-2 victory over California and eiminate the Bears from the 2005 Women's College World Series Saturday at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.

The Wildcats (45-11) leaped out to 2-0 lead in the second on solo homers from catcher Jackie Coburn and Balko. Cal (52-15) tied the game in the fifth with runs by shortstop Chelsea Spencer and pinch runner Erika Racklin.

For the first time since 2002, the Bears will not play for the WCWS title. It is just the second time in 10 appearances at the WCWS that Cal had been eliminated after two games.

The Bears lost their 2005 WCWS opener, 2-1, to UCLA June 4.

Arizona advances in the loser's bracket and will play Texas at 6 p.m. tonight.

A full game recap, plus statistics, quotes and notes will be posted shortly.
