Men's Hoops Adds Jack McGillis of Montana
June 6, 2005
Corvallis - Jack McGillis, a 6-foot-6 guard/forward who was the Montana state Class AA Tournament MVP, has signed to play at Oregon State, men's basketball coach Jay John announced today.
McGillis led Hellgate High School in Missoula, Mont., to a state championship this spring, scoring 16 points in a 55-49 victory over Billings West. He averaged 19.9 points (second-best in Montana's Class AA), shot 60.8 percent from the field and was a league-best 49.2 percent from three-point range.
'We're really happy to have Jack,' John said. 'He's a very competitive player and he should continue to grow. When you look at his high school percentages, you can see that he shoots the ball extremely well. He rebounds and defends well at his position. He's a very good student with very good character who will fit us well.'
McGillis was a three-year starter who averaged 12 points as a sophomore and 17 points as a junior.
A standout football player as well, McGillis earned all-state honors in that sport as well.
