Meet Memo
Twenty-four (14 women, ten men) Stanford student-athletes and one relay team (women's 1,600 meter relay) will be competing at the 2005 NCAA Division I Men's & Women's Track & Field Championships (June 8-11) at Sacramento State University (Hornet Stadium) ... To qualify for the NCAA Track & Field Championships, collegiate athletes competed at the NCAA Regionals which took place throughout the United States (May 27-28) ... The West Regional was contested at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field ... Automatic NCAA championship berths were granted to the Top-5 finishers in each individual event at the Regional, and to the Top-3 relay teams ... The NCAA supplemented the championship field with thehighest-ranking competitors (roughly 6-7 per individual event and 3-4 per relay) from the national performance lists, provided the athlete competed at a regional competition and was not among the finishers to earn an automatic NCAA berth ... The lone exceptions were the competitors in the 10,000 meters and multi-events, in which athletes qualified directly for the NCAA Championship by meeting provisional and automatic standards.

The redshirt freshman qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 5,000 meters based on his time of 13:44.78 (#9 in school history) at the Stanford Invitational (3/25/05) ... Placed tenth in the 5,000 meters (14:24.73) at the NCAA West Regional (5/27/05) ... Also competed in the 10,000 meters (29:32.83) at the Pac-10 Championship (5/14/05) where he finished third.

Undine Becker, Senior, 400 Meter Hurdles, San Jose, Ca
The 2005 Pac-10 champion in the 400 meter hurdles (58.59) ... Her time (58.59) is second-best in school history ... Finished third at the NCAA West Regional (5/28/05) with a time of 59.93 ... Finished seventh in the long jump (19-9 3/4, 5.97m) at the conference championship.

Sara Bei, Senior, 5,000 meters, Santa Rosa, Ca
Enters the NCAA Championship with the top collegiate time in the nation in the 5,000 meters (15:41.57, Mt. SAC Relays, 4/15/05) ... Her career-best is 15:36.21 set in 2004 ... Placed second at the NCAA's in the 5,000 meters last year ... Captured the NCAA West Regional title (5/27/05) for a third straight year (16:22.41) ... Finished first in the 5,000 meters (16:47.57) for a second straight year, and second in the 1,500 meters (4:16.14, career-best and sixth all-time at Stanford) at the Pac-10 Championship (5/14 - 5/15/05) to help the Cardinal win the conference championship ... A member of the indoor distance medley relay team that finished third at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships to gain All-America honors.

Russell Brown, Sophomore/Freshman (ath), 1,500 Meters, Hanover, NH,
Appearing in his first NCAA Outdoor Championship ... A fifth place finish in the 1,500 meters (3:45.40) at the NCAA West Regional (5/28/05) earned him a berth at the NCAA's ... Finished sixth (3:46.90) at the Pac-10 Championship ... An All-American member of the indoor distance medley relay team that finished fourth at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships.

Alicia Craig, Senior/Junior (ath), 10,000 meters, Gillette, Wy
The two-time defending NCAA 10,000 meter champion ... Ran a national qualifying time of 34:02.79 at the Pac-10 Championship to win the title for a third straight season ... The NCAA record holder in the 10,000 meters with a time of 32:19.97 set last year at the Cardinal Invitational ... Gained All-America honors with a fourth place finish in the 5,000 meters at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championship.

Janice Davis, Sophomore, 100 Meters, Natchez, Ms
Has become one of the top sprinters in school history ... Ranks second and fourth, respectively, in the 100 meters (11.47) and 200 meters (23.62) in school history ... Both times were set in 2005 ... The 2005 NCAA West Regional champion in the 100 meters (11.61) ... Ran a career-best 11.47 at the NCAA West Regional prelims (5/27/05) ... Placed fifth in the 100 meters and 200 meters at the 2005 Pac-10 Championship ... Ran the anchor leg on Stanford's winning 1,600 meter relay team (3:34.73, #2 in school history) at the NCAA West Regional Championship (5/28/05) ... Ian Dobson, Senior, 5,000 Meters, Klamath Falls, Or
A time of 13:27.45 (third-best in school history) in the 5,000 meters has propelled the Stanford senior to the NCAA Championship ... Dobson obtained his time at the Mt. SAC Relays (4/15/05) ... His time is currently #1 among collegiate runners ... Finished third at the NCAA West Regional (5/27/05) in the 5,000 meters (13:57.41) ... Finished third at the Pac-10 Championship (5/15/05) with a time of 13:38.33 ... The 2005 NCAA indoor 5,000 meter champion ... Qualified automatically for the NCAA Championship in the 10,000 meters with a school record time of 27:59.72 (#1 among collegiate runners this year) ... However, will just concentrate on the 5,000 meters at the NCAA's ... Also holds the school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (8:32.09) ... A nine-time All-American at Stanford.

Chris Emme, Senior, 5,000 Meters, The Woodlands, Tx
Ran a 13:50.17 at the Cardinal Invitational (5/1/05) to gain a berth in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Championship ... Finished sixth at the NCAA West Regional (14:02.34, 5/27/05) and 14th at the Pac-10 Championship (5/15/05, 14:29.23).

Ashley Freeman, Sophomore, 800 Meters, Hawthorne, Ca
A time of 2:04.82 (#4 in school history) and a second place finish in the 800 meters at the NCAA West Regional (5/28/05) has earned the sophomore a berth at the NCAA Championships ... Ran 2:05.71 in the 800 meters at the Pac-10 Championship to finish second ... Helped Stanford win the 1,600 meter relay title at the NCAA West Regional (5/28/05) by running the second leg and a time of 3:34.73 (#2 time in school history).

Jeane Goff, Senior, 3,000 Meter Steeplechase, Turner, Or
Making her first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships ... Finished second at the NCAA West Regional in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:17.51, #3 all-time in school history) ... Placed third (10:29.53) at the Pac-10 Championship (5/14/05) where she finished third ... Also ran the 1,500 meters (4:27.74) this year.

Brett Gotcher, Junior/Sophomore (ath), 10,000 meters, Watsonville, Ca
Stanford's lone representative in the 10,000 meters ... Qualified with a time of 28:59.27 at the Stanford Invitational (3/25/05) ... Finished sixth at the Pac-10 Championship (29:56.21, 5/14/05).

Ryan Hall, Senior/Junior (ath), 5,000 Meters, Big Bear Lake, Ca
One of the top collegiate runners in the United States ... At the Mt. SAC Relays (4/15/05), ran the 5,000 meters in 13:31.58, a career-best and fifth-best in school history ... His 5,000 meter time is currently #2 among collegiate runners behind teammate Ian Dobson (13:27.45) ... Finished second at both the NCAA West Regional (13:48.92, 5/27/05) and at the Pac-10 Championship (13:37.45, 5/15/05).

Sarah Hopping, Senior/Junior (ath), Hammer, Longmont, Co
A school record and a second place finish in the hammer at the NCAA West Regional (5/27/05) has vaulted the junior into the NCAA Championship ... Set the school record with a toss of 204-2 (62.23m), far better than her previous school record of 196-4 (59.84m) at The Big Meet (4/23/05) ... Finished third (196-2, 59.80m) at the Pac-10 Championship.

Nashonme Johnson, Junior, 400 Meters, Watauga, Tx
Finished second in the 400 meters (53.10, second-best) at the NCAA West Regional (5/28/05) ... Finished third at the Pac-10 Championship (53.70, 5/15/05) ... The school record holder in the 400 meters (52.40) set last year ... Helped Stanford to a second place and fourth place finish, respectively, in the 400 and 1,600 meter relay team at this year's conference championship.

Arianna Lambie, Sophomore, 1,500 meters, Harvard, Ma
Stanford's lone representative in the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Championships ... Gained entrance to the Nationals with a fourth place finish (4:20.47) at the NCAA West Regional (5/28/05) ... Ran a season-best 4:17.13 at The Big Meet (4/23/05) ... Produced a career-best 4:13.14 (#4 in school history) to finish second at the Regional in 2004 ... Finished fourth at the conference meet (4:19.53) in 2005.

Erica McLain, Freshman, Triple Jump, Plano, Tx
Although only a freshman, one of the premier triple jumpers in the United States ... Recently set the American junior record and the school record in winning the triple jump at the Pac-10 Championship (5/15/05) ... Leaped 45-2 1/2 (13.78m) at the Pac-10 Championship (5/15/05) ... Has enjoyed an outstanding outdoor season ... Four of her jumps at the Pac-10 Championship made the all-time American Junior list, and she now has nine of the Top 11 American junior jumps ... Finished second at the NCAA West Regional (5/28/05) with an effort of 42-6 1/4 (12.96m) ... Finished second in the triple jump at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championship to earn All-America honors ... Also won the long jump (21-2 1/2, 6.46m) at the 2005 Pac-10 Championship ... Finished third in the 400 meters (53.37, #3 in school history) at the NCAA West Regionals (5/28/05) ... Placed fifth in the 400 meters at the conference championship ... Has a career-best 2:06.17 (eighth-best in school history) set last year ... Wopamo Osaisai, Freshman, 100 Meters, Pinole, Ca
Stanford's top sprinter and one of the best in the Pac-10 in 2005 ... Ran a career-best 10.45, a freshman school record and third-best in school history ... Ran his career-best in the prelims at the Pac-10 Championship (5/14/05) ... A finalist in the 100 meters at the conference championship where he finished eighth ... Earned a berth to the NCAA's with a fourth place finish (10.57) at the NCAA West Regional (5/28/05) ... Also ran the 200 meters, and as a member of the 400 meter relay and 1,600 meter relay teams during the outdoor season ... Set the school record in the indoor 60 meters (6.83).

Ashley Purnell, Junior/Sophomore (ath), 200 Meters, Metcalfe, Ontario
Has emerged as one of the top sprinters on the Stanford team ... Qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 meters with a fifth place finish (23.45) at the NCAA West Regional (5/28/05) ... Ran a career-best 23.43 (#2 all-time at Stanford) in the prelims at the Pac-10 Championship (5/14/05) ... Also ran the 100 meters (11.68, #4 in school history) and the 400 meters this year ... Finished sixth in the 200 meters, and seventh in the 100 meters at the Pac-10 Championship ... The 2005 NCAA West Regional (201-0, 61.26m) and Pac-10 champion (192-7, 58.70m) ... At the Mt. SAC Relays (4/17/05), set the school record (202-5, 61.70m) ... A transfer from SMU where he finished third in the discus at the NCAA's last year to gain All-America honors ... Has a career-best 212-1 (64.90m).

Donald Sage, Senior, 1,500 Meters, Elmhurst, Il
The 2002 NCAA champion in the 1,500 meters qualified for the NCAA's with a second place finish (3:44.69) at the NCAA West Regional (5/28/05) ... Qualified for the NCAA West Regional with a time of 3:41.62 (Cardinal Invitational, 5/1/05) ... Has a career-best of 3:39.27 which he ran in 2001 ... Finished fourth at the conference meet (3:46.79) in the 1,500 meters ... Finished seventh at the conference championship in the 5,000 meters ... A ten-time All-American.

Solomon Welch, Junior, Triple Jump, Danville, Ca
A fifth place finish (51-7 1/4, 15.73m) at the NCAA West Regional (5/28/05) has propelled the junior to the NCAA Championship ... Set a career-best 51-9 (15.77m) in the triple jump at the Stanford Spring Opener (3/6/05) ... That mark is second-best in school history.

The team of Chinny Offor, Ashley Freeman, Christine Moschella and Janice Davis) ran a season-best 3:34.73 (#2 in school history) to win the NCAA West Regional (5/28/05) title.

Several school records have been set during the 2005 outdoor season ... Freshman Erica McLain broke the American junior record and the school record in the triple jump (45-2 1/2, 13.78m) in winning the Pac-10 Championship (5/15/05) ... McLain's mark was also third-best in Pac-10 history ... McLain also is the holder of the freshman school record in the long jump (20-2 1/4, 6.15m) set at the Pac-10 Championship (5/14/05) ... Sara Hopping is the new school record holder in the hammer (204-2, 62.23m) set at the NCAA West Regional (5/27/05) ... Danielle Maier is the new freshman school record holder in the javelin (150-2, 45.78m) ... Maier set the record at the Pac-10 Championship (5/14/05) ...
