TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State junior Travis Buck was selected 36th overall by the Oakland Athletics in the 2005 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. With his selection he becomes the 22nd Sun Devil to be drafed in the first round.

Buck (Richland, Wash.) is hitting .389 (100-for-257) with 73 runs scored, 22 doubles, three triples, four home runs, 38 RBI and 24 stolen bases. He became just the 21st player in ASU history to record 100 hits in a sason and the fourth to record 100 hits, 20 doubles and 20 steals in the same season. In his three years as a Sun Devil, Buck improved his draft status drastically, moving up from a 23rd round draft choice (700th overall) by the Seattle Mariners in 2002.

Arizona State also had three of its players that signed a letter of intent (NLI) get selected in the first three rounds of the draft.
