Cochran Wins U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier

One current and one past UCLA golfer earned berths into the 60th U.S. Women's Open, June 23-26 at Cherry Hills CC near Denver, CO.

Freshman Amie Cochran, who earned second-team All-America honors in 2005, won the sectional qualifying tournament at Lake Merced GC in Daly City on June 13. Cochran posted rounds of 73-70--143 (-1) to win by one stroke.

LPGA TOUR rookie Hana Kim also qualified for her first U.S. Women's Open by tying for ninth place at the East Coast site near Baltimore, MD. Kim posted rounds of 70-78--148 at Green Springs Valley Hunt Club.

Five players with UCLA ties did not qualify: senior Charlotte Mayorkas (150), sophomore Hannah Jun (150), incoming freshman Tiffany Joh (155), former Bruin Gina Umeck (158) and Head Coach Carrie Forsyth (160).
