Five More Prep Athletes Join Cougar Track & Field

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Five more student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Washington State University and compete for the Cougar Track & Field team next year, Head Coach Rick Sloan announced Monday.

Robert Williams, a hurdler from Riverside, Calif., Dan Lucero, a distance runner from Port Angeles, Wash., and sprinters Lorraine King, from Fontana, Calif., Jeanne Newman, from Moorpark, Calif., and Kelsey Dunne from Adna, Wash.

Williams, from Ramona High in Riverside, won the California state high hurdles title with a time of 13.97. He also won the 2005 Mt. SAC boys invitational 110m hurdles with a time of 14.09w and was third in the boys invitational 300m hurdles at that same meet with a time of 38.13.

King is a four-year letterwinner at J.W. North High in Fontana, Calif., who claimed the Ivy League 400m dash title for three straight years. This spring she also won the league's 100m, 300m hurdles titles and ran on the winning 4x400m relay. King has a 400m dash lifetime-best time of 55.24. She was named the 2005 Riverside Hall of Fame Athlete of the Year.

Lucero lettered in cross country and track at Port Angeles High and recorded an 11th place finish at the 2004 state 4A cross county championships.

Newman has run a personal-best 200m dash time in of 24.34 seconds and 400m dash time of 56.40 seconds. She won the Marmonte League 200m title. Newman was selected the Moorpark High Athlete of the Year.

Dunne was the state B champion in the 100m dash (12.71), the 100m hurdles (15.17) and 300m hurdles (44.67) after running a state B meet record time of 45.16 in the prelims. Her lifetime-best times are 12.65 for the 100m dash, 14.93 for the high hurdles and 44.67 for the 300m hurdles.

Updates on achievements by earlier Cougar track and field signees/walk-ons include:Sam Ahlbeck, Renton, Wash. - Finished sixth in 3200m at the 2004 adidas Golden West Invitational...was the 3200m runner up at 3A state championships in time of 9:12.47.Vic Asher, Vancouver, Wash. - Runner-up in state 3A discus with a PR throw of 164-7 and state runner-up in shot put...his PR in shot is 60-8.Matt Lamb, Emmett, Idaho - Won state 4A shot put and discus with classification records...his lifetime-best marks are 190-4 in the discus and 63-7 in the shot put.Chase Mancuso, Mukilteo, Wash. - State 4A discus champion with toss of 182-2...won the discus at the Brooks Meet of Champions (Oregon vs. Washington preps) with a PR throw of 185-8.Tiffany Maskulinski, Elma, NY - Runner-up in the pole vault at the Nike Outdoor National Meet last weekend in North Carolina...her PR is 13-5.Jasmine McCormack, Arlington, Wash. - Finished third in javelin at state 4A meet...her PR is 144-0.Clint Osborn, Lake Stevens, Wash. - Took third place at state 4A shot put...his shot PR is 59-11 3/4.Marisa Sandoval, Los Alamos, NM - Runner-up in state meet 1600m.Jimmy Schofield, Spanaway, Wash. - Runner-up in state 4A 800m in time...second in 800m at Brooks Meet of Champions (Oregon vs. Washington preps)...800m PR is 1:54.0.Catie Schuetzle, Spokane, Wash. - Runner-up at the state 4A in long jump and the triple jump...lifetime-best marks are 19-4 3/4 in the long jump and 39-0 in the triple jump.Cameron Schwisow, Olympia, Wash. (recruited walk-on) - Runner-up in the state 4A javelin championships...PR is 195-7.Devin Timpson, Ocean Shores, Wash. - Runner-up in 100m, 200m and 400m dashes at state B championships...400m time of 49.39 broke state B record...PR times of 10.7h (100m) and 49.04(400m).Moreno Zapata, Lakewood, Wash. - State 4A triple jump champion...PR is 50-11 3/4w.
