Current and Former Bruins to Compete at USATF Senior/Junior Nationals

Several current and former Bruins will be competing in the USATF Senior/Junior National Championships at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, Thur.-Sun., June 23-26 for a chance to make a World Championship team.
Athletes competing in the Senior National competition will be vying for a top-three finish and a spot on the USA's World Championship team. This year's World Track & Field Championships will be held in Helsinki, Finland, August 6-14.
The top-three finishers at the Junior National Championships will head to Windsor, Ontario, Canada July 28-31.
2005 seniors Jon Rankin and Jonathan Williams will make their first post-UCLA appearances this weekend. Rankin, the 2005 West Region and Pac-10 1500m champion will compete for a top-three spot in the 1500m, while Williams, fresh off his All-American finish at the NCAA meet, will compete in the 400m hurdles. Brandon Johnson, also an All-American in the 400m hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor meet a few weeks ago, will also compete in the 400m hurdles.
Rankin currently has the 12th fastest 1500m time (3:40.39) in the U.S., while Johnson and Williams rank fifth (48.59) and 15th (49.67)respectively in the 400m hurdles.
Former Bruin great and the world leader in the shot put, John Godina, will look to regain his lead in the VISA Championship Series with a win in the shot put. In April, Godina threw a lifetime-best and world-leading shot mark of 72-10 at the Adidas Classic, also held at the Home Depot Center.
Former Bruins also competing this weekend at USA's include - Kyle Erickson in the 400m hurdles and Luke Sullivan in the discus.
In the Junior Nationals competition, redshirt-freshman Boldiszar Kocsor will compete in the hammer throw, freshman Dustin DeLeo will jump in the pole vault and freshman Michael Johnson, Jr. will compete in the triple jump.
Kocsor has the top mark in the nation in the hammer (217-4), while Johnson has the third-best triple jump mark (51-3.50) and DeLeo has the No. 4 jump going into the pole vault competition (16-6.75).
Incoming freshme Alexander Pearlstone (Sir Francis Drake HS) and Elijah Wells (Taft HS) will also be in action this weekend, as Pearlstone will compete in the 200m and Wells will run the 400m.
