Corvallis, Ore. - Former Oregon State University student-athletes Bill Swancutt and Mari Embertson have been named Pacific-10 Conference Medal winners, league commissioner Tom Hansen announced. A Conference medal is awarded to each member institution's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.
Swancutt was a four-year letterwinner in football and was selected the co-recipient of the Pac-10's Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year award. He concluded his career with school records for quarterback sacks with 37 and tackles-for-loss with 59.5. The business administration major was a two-time first team All-Pac-10 Academic team member and was selected the Co-Oregon State Male Athlete of the Year at this month's Bennys Awards. He was drafted in the sixth round by the Detroit Lions in April.
Embertson was a four-year letterwinner in swimming and earned All-American honors in 2004 for her performance in the 400-individual medley. The Roseburg High School graduate was a first team All-Pac-10 Conference Academic team member this season after twice earning second team acclaim. The business major competed in two NCAA Championships during her career and is the school record holder in the 400-individual medley. Embertson also recently accepted the Glenn Klein Community Service Award and was selected a Scholar-Athlete at the seventh annual Bennys Awards.
