Wopamo Osaisai Earns Berth On U.S. Junior World Championship Team

Carson, Ca - A second place finish and a time of 10.58 in the finals of the 100 meters has earned Stanford freshman Wopamo Osaisai a berth on Team USA which will compete at the 2005 Pan American Junior Track & Field Championships in late July in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

Osaisai was competing on Thursday during first day action at the USA Senior and Junior Track & Field Championships. Osasai began the day with a time of 10.63 in the prelims of the 100 meters. That time was fifth-best in the prelims. Osaisai, who is also a member of the Cardinal football team, improved his time to 10.58 in the finals. Osaisai finished second to J-Mee Samuels who also clocked a time of 10.58, but edged Osaisai at the finish line.

The 2005 USA Junior Championships are being held concurrently with the USA Senior Outdoor Championships as the nation's best under-20 year old athletes compete for spots on Team USA.

Arianna Lambie, a Stanford junior, advanced to Saturday's final (2:22 p.m.) in the 1,500 meters at the Senior Nationals with a time of 4:15.18 in the prelims. Lambie's time earned her the 12th and final spot in the final.

David Vidal, a Stanford senior, advanced to the finals (Saturday, 12:45 p.m.) in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Vidal gained the 14th and final berth in the finals with a time of 8:47.66 in Thursday's prelim.

In the finals of the women's 5,000 meters, former Stanford All-American Lauren Fleshman will represent Team USA in August at the World Outdoor Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Fleshman finished second with a time of 15:16.80. Shalance Flanagan of Nike won the race (15:10.96). Sara Bei, a June Stanford graduate, placed sixth in a time of 15:24.74.
