June 26, 2005

TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Four Arizona State players earned a spot on the 2005 College World Series All-Tournament team after the Sun Devils remarkable third-place finish in the CWS last week in Omaha, Neb. Senior first baseman Jeff Larish, senior second baseman Joey Hooft, sophomore left fielder Colin Curtis and junior right fielder Travis Buck were all named to the 11-player team.

National champion Texas, who went 5-0 in the CWS to win their sixth national championship in school history, were also named to the team, including most outstanding player third baseman David Maroul. Nebraska second baseman Andy Gerch was the only non-ASU or Texas player to make the team. In 19 trips to the College World Series, 58 Sun Devils have now earned All-CWS honors.

Larish (Tempe, Ariz.) hit .438 (7-for-16) during the series, including historic three-home run game against Nebraska to tie a single-game College World Series record. He also added two doubles and drove in four runs for a 1.125 slugging percentage during the five-game span. Larish finished his senior season hitting .324 (81-for-250) with 23 home runs and 67 RBI. His 51 career home runs are second in ASU history.

Hooft (Reno, Nev.) shook off a rough 2-for-16 (.125) performance in the regionals and super regionals and had an outstanding CWS by going 8-for-19 (.421) with four runs, two doubles and two RBI. In three career trips to Omaha (two prior with the University of Miami), Hooft hit .400 (12-for-30) in his CWS career. In his only year as a Sun Devil, Hooft hit .293 (55-for-188) with nine doubles, one triple, one home run and 28 RBI.

Buck (Richland, Wash.) went 7-for-20 (.350) in five College World Series starts with one double, one home run and three RBI. The first-round draft pick of the Oakland A's hit .382 (110-for-288) with 82 runs, 24 doubles, six home runs, 43 RBI and 27 stolen bases to lead the Sun Devils during the 2005 season. His 110 hits rank ninth in ASU single-season history.

Curtis (Issaquah, Wash.) caught fire to go 8-for-11 (.727) over the final three games of the series and finished the trip to Omaha hitting .474 (9-for-19) with two doubles and three RBI. He finished the season hitting .342 (89-for-260) with 14 doubles, two home runs and 45 RBI.
