Husky Golfers Busy in Local and National Events

Seattle - Washington junior Amy Wang had the best day of a number of Husky golfers playing in top amateur tournaments that got underway today. Wang, a native of Kirkland, shot even-par 72 to lead the Pacific Northwest Golf Association's Women's Amateur Championship being contest at Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club in Federal Way. Wang owns a three-shot lead over Husky teammate Paige Mackenzie.

Husky junior Courtney McCracken of Eagle, Idaho is tied for 13th at the tournament at 80 while incoming freshman Molly Boyle of Portland is 35th at 87.

Mackenzie, who will play in the U.S. Amateur later this month, is currently ranked sixth among all women's amateur players.

Husky sophomore Kim Shin had to withdraw from the tournament due to illness.

At the PNGA Men's Amateur, former Husky Derek Berg is tied for third at 4-under 67. That event is being played at the Oakbrook Golf and Country Club in Lakewood.

Husky senior Sung Ea Lee of Tacoma is 44th at the 29th U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship at the Swope Memorial Golf Course in Kansas City, Missouri. Lee faces one more round of stroke play before the field is cut for the match play portion of the competition. The event began with a field of 144 players.

Washington sophomore Sterling Clark did not fair as well at the 80th U.S. Men's Amateur Public Links Championship at the Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio. Clark fired an 11-over 81 and is 137th in the 156-player field.

NCAA Champion James Lepp will start his defense of his British Columbia Amateur Championship Tuesday. He has won the event the past three years. Lepp is ranked 14th among men's amateur players in the latest Golfweek standings.

Husky junior Erik Olson will begin play at the 30th Annual Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship Wednesday at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
