Eric Craven Joins Dallas Mavericks' Summer League Squad
July 12, 2005
Former Trojan basketball player Errick Craven, a senior at USC last season, was signed to the Dallas Mavericks' summer league team this week, which plays in the Southern California Summer Pro League in Long Beach.
He played in his first game Monday (July 11), hitting his only shot, while grabbing one rebound and making one steal in six minutes of a 95-87 loss to the Miami Heat.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound guard was one of the top all-around players in the Pac-10 during his four years at USC. Craven finished his career 19th on USC's scoring chart (1,159), second on USC's career steals chart (224) and 15th on Troy's career three-point chart (92). He had at least five steals in a game 16 times in his career and led the Pac-10 in steals in each of his first three seasons before being slowed by injuries during his senior season. His career total of 221 steals was good for 10th all-time in the Pac-10 and second all-time on the USC career list behind Brandon Granville (228). In his final collegiate game, Craven poured in a career-high 30 points on March 5 vs. Oregon St.
The SPL runs July 8-23 in Long Beach at The Pyriamid, located on the campus of Long Beach State. More than 800 current and former NBA players have participated in the SPL's 36-year history.
