FSN Arizona Gets Set For Football Season by Replaying Past Editions of The `Big Game' Between Arizona and Arizona State
July 19, 2005
Tempe, Ariz. - FSN Arizona, the exclusive cable television home of Arizona State, is set to kick off the 2005 college football campaign by replaying some past gridiron classics of the Arizona State University football program, in a six-game series called The 2005 Arizona and Arizona State Football Classic.
The six-week telecast, which includes two head-to-head match ups between the in-state rivals Arizona State and University of Arizona, begins on July 23.
The first ASU replay will be on July 30 at 6:30 p.m. MST, when FSN AZ airs the Sun Devils win over Washington State on Nov. 1, 1997. Quarterback Ryan Kealy and the Sun Devil defense proved too much for the Ryan Leaf-led undefeated Cougars, as ASU was victorious 44-31 in Tempe. It marked WSU's only regular season defeat during its 1998 Rose Bowl campaign.
The next ASU replay is scheduled for Aug. 13 at 6:30 p.m. MST featuring the 1996 Pac-10 Champion Sun Devils taking on the Arizona Wildcats. The Jake Plummer-led Sun Devils routed the Wildcats, 56-14, in Tucson to round out a memorable 11-0 regular season and send the Sun Devils packing for Pasadena. The 42-point win was the largest margin of victory in the series since 1958 and set up ASU's match up with Ohio State in the 1997 Rose Bowl.
The six-game series rounds out with two straight ASU replays from last year's memorable 9-3 season. On Saturday, Aug. 20, at 6:30 p.m. MST, FSN AZ will replay University of Arizona's 34-27 upset of the 18th-ranked Sun Devils in the 2004 Territorial Cup. The final game of the series is on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 6:30 p.m. MST and features the Sun Devils in last season's 54-7 victory over the nationally-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes in front of a rain-soaked, sold-out crowd at Sun Devil Stadium.
