Hartley Wins World Championship Gold On 1-Meter Springboard

USC senior-to-be Blythe Hartley, a three-time NCAA champion and 2004 Olympic medal winner, won her second career World Championships gold medal on one-meter, out-performing Chinese 2004 Olympic medallist Minxia Wu on Monday (July 18) at the XI FINA World Championships in Montreal.
Hartley, who won her first world title in 2001 in addition to a bronze in 2003, finished with 325.65 points, leading through all five final-round dives. She also was the highest scorer in the preliminary and semifinal rounds. Wu, who finished second with 299.70 points, was the silver medallist at the 2004 Olympics on 3-meter.
Hartley won a bronze medal in Athens on 10-meter synchronized diving, was fifth on 3-meter springboard and was seventh on synchronized 3-meter springboard. The Olympics does not include 1-meter springboard competitions.
