Sherdian to Compete at U.S. Women's Amateur

July 19, 2005

BERKELEY, Calif. - California senior Sophia Sheridan will compete at the 105th U.S. Women's Amateur Aug. 1-7 at Ansley Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga.

Last year, former Golden Bear star Sarah Huarte - the 2004 NCAA champion - advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Women's Amateur at the Kahkwa Club in Erie, Pa.

Sheridan, a product of Guadalajara, Mexico, won the 2005 NCAA West Regional for her first collegiate title. Last summer, she claimed the 104th Women's Western Amateur in Wisconsin.

She has helped Cal to consecutive top five NCAA Championships team finishes and has earned All-Pac-10 recognition for three straight seasons. As a sophomore in 2003-04, Sheridan received honorable mention All-America distinction.
