Keflezighi Gets Monthly Honor from the San Diego Breitbard Athletic Foundation

The list of the Breitbard Athletic Foundation (affiliated with the San DiegoHall of Champions Sports Museum) Stars of the Month for June, 2005, includes2004 Olympic silver medalist and UCLA great distance runner Meb Keflezighi.
MEB KEFLEZIGHI (Men's Track and Field, San Diego/San Diego HS/UCLA) - The2004 Olympic marathon silver medalist, making a comeback from Achillestendon and hip flexor muscle injuries that forced him to withdraw fromappearing in the London Marathon, placed second in the 10,000 meters at theU.S. Track and Field Championships on June 23 at the Home Depot Center inCarson. In a sprint to the finish, Keflezighi's time of 28 minutes, 10.57seconds was second to Abdi Abdirahman by a mere .19. Keflezighi competes forTeam Running USA and is coached by Bob Larsen, the legendary track and fieldcoach that recruited him out of San Diego HS to UCLA. Keflezighi, who willcompete for the USA Team at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki,Finland in August, recently announced he will run at the ING New York CityMarathon on Nov. 6.
