Former Trojan David Meca Wins Distance Swim Title At World Championships

Former USC distance swimmer David Meca won a gold medal in the men's 25k open-water competition at the 2005 FINA World Championships on Saturday (July 23).

Meca, 31, who swam at Troy from 1994-1997, completed the grueling distance in 5:00:21.4, finishing just ahead of Australia's Brendan Capell (5:00:23.6).

Competing for Spain, Meca's gold complemented his two medals at the 2003 World Championships when he won a silver in the 25k race and a bronze in 10k.
