Mackenzie Leads UW Trio at US Amateur

Roswell, GA - Washington senior Paige Mackenzie of Yakima had the best opening round of three Husky entrants at the U. S. Women's Amateur that got underway Monday in Roswell, Ga. Mackenzie shot even par 72 to tie for 16th after the first 18 holes of play at the Settingdown Creek Course at Ansley Golf Club. She is four strokes behind tournament leader In-Kyung Kim of Korea who shot 68.

Husky junior Amber Prange trails Mackenzie by one stroke after opening with a 1-over 73. She is tied for 29th. Sophomore Kim Shin carded an 11-over 83 and is tied for 130th.

The second round of stroke play takes place Tuesday before the field is cut for match play. The tournament runs through Aug. 7.
