TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University women's golf team will compete in the 2005 Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship Nov. 11-13 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
ASU is one of 16 teams in the field for the women's event, which will be played on the Los Colinas course of the Mission Inn Resort. Selection to the Match Play Championship was based on 2005 NCAA Championship finish, and all 16 teams finished in the top 22 at last year's national championship.
The Sun Devils turned in their second consecutive top 10 finish at the NCAA Championships last season, tying for eighth. ASU will be joined by Arkansas, Florida, Furman, Michigan State, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Tulane, UC Irvine, UCLA, USC and Washington in the tournament.
ASU turned in a second-place finish to eventual national champion Duke at last year's Hooters Match Play Championship. The third-seeded Sun Devils defeated No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 14 Wake Forest and No. 2 Oklahoma State before falling to the top-seeded Blue Devils last season.
Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Melissa Luellen, Arizona State will open the 2005-06 season at the Topy Cup on Sept. 4-6 in Tokyo, Japan. The tournament will be held at the Tanagura Country Club in Tokyo.
