Cal Wins Three Events at National Championships

IRVINE--Cal swimmers won three events at the 2005 National Championships held from Aug. 3-7 in Irvine. The Golden Bears took first in the 800-meter free relay, the 400 free relay and the 100 back.

In the 800 free relay, the team of Emily Silver, Erin Reilly, Ashley Chandler and Lauren Medina took first in 8:13.29.

Cal finished first in the 400 free relay (3:44.99) led by Medina, Reilly, Silver and Lauren Andrews.

Helen Silver placed first in the 100 back in 1:02.64. The Cal senior took third in the 200 back in 2:13.70.

Cal also put forth a strong effort in the 400 medley relay, finishing second in 4:13.15 in a race swam by Helen Silver, Annie Babicz, Reilly and Emily Silver.

The 200 free was dominated by Bears, with Medina taking third (2:00.53), Reilly placing seventh (2:03.49) and Chandler finishing in eighth (2:04.24). Emily Silver took fifth in the 100 free (56.56).
