Aug. 9, 2005

SEATTLE - The Washington men's soccer team has been ranked No. 26 in the College Soccer News Preseason Poll, the website recently announced. The Huskies, who finished the 2004 campaign with an overall record of 11-7-2, are one of three Pac-10 squads ranked in the Top-30 along with No. 4 UCLA and No. 22 California.

Defending NCAA champion Indiana was ranked No. 1, followed by Duke, Maryland, UCLA and St. John's. Rounding out the Top-10 were New Mexico, UC Santa Barbara, Creighton, Connecticut and SMU.

The Huskies will face three opponents ranked in the preseason poll in UCLA, Cal and No. 8 Creighton, who UW will face in its season opener in Portland, Sept. 2.

Washington returns eight starters from last year's squad that tied for second in the Pac-10 standings, including first-team All-Pac-10 performers Chris Eylander, a senior goalkeeper, and Kevin Forrest, a junior forward.

UW makes its home debut hosting the Husky Invitational, Sept. 23 and 25. Washington will face Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at Husky Soccer Field.
