Kyle Ransom Helps Team USA Win Bronze Medal At World University Games

Aug. 15, 2005

Izmir, Turkey - Kyle Ransom (junior in 2005-06) swam the third leg to help Team USA win the bronze medal in the 400 meter free relay during weekend action at the World University Games.

Team USA came into the finals seeded sixth, but that didn't seem to matter in this race, which was tight throughout. France took the gold medal in 3:19.91, with Great Britain just three-tenths off the pace in 3:20.27. Team USA, composed of Terry Silkaitis, Ryan Verlatti, Ransom and Matt Grevers, finished in 3:20.27.

'I thought we had an outstanding performance,' said Ransom. 'No expected us to win, so considering that, we did really well. Matt Grevers had a great effort, going out in 22.7 to make up a lot of ground. I think we were behind by about a second at that point.

'For me personally, this is my first time outside of the United States, so it's been a great experience to come here and be a part of this team. I had a great season in college and went for it to see if I could make the team. I'd say it all worked out really well.'
