Philip Repeats on Rimington Trophy Watch List

Aug. 16, 2005

BERKELEY - Cal's senior center, Marvin Philip, has been named to the Dave Rimington Trophy pre-season watch list. The award is given annually to the top collegiate center in the nation.

Philip, who was one of the seven finalists for the Rimington Trophy in 2004, enters his senior season as one of the country's top offensive linemen. The 6-foot-2, 305-pound center was named first team All-Pac-10 and a second team Associated Press All-American after the 2004 season, and The Sporting News has ranked him as the top center in the country going into the 2005 campaign. Philip was also named to the Outland Trophy watch list.

Minnesota senior Greg Eslinger (6-3, 280) and Georgia senior Russ Tanner (6-4, 290) are on the 2005 watch list and were also finalists in 2004.

The winner of the Rimington Trophy will be determined by a consensus of the four All-American teams: The Walter Camp Football Foundation, America Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association of American and The Sporting News.
