Sun Devil Soccer Selected Sixth in Preseason Pac-10 Coaches Poll

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University soccer team was selected to finish sixth in the Pac-10 Conference this season according to a vote of the conference's coaches released Tuesday. Defending co-champion UCLA was voted the favorite heading into the 2005 season.
Coming off an 8-9-2 season with a 4-3-2 mark in the Pac-10, the Sun Devils received 50 points in the voting while the Bruins collected 80 points and eight first-place votes. USC (65), Stanford (64) and Arizona (55) came in second through fourth, respectively, with California (51) earning the No. 5 slot, just one point ahead of ASU. Washington (33), Washington State (22), Oregon State (20) and Oregon (10) rounded out the voting.
The Sun Devils open their 10th varsity season next weekend with a pair of matches, starting with a tough road contest at No. 5 Santa Clara at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, before returning home to face Weber State in a 4 p.m. contest on Sunday, Aug. 28, at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
