Aug. 17, 2005
TREVISO, Italy - Sophomore forward Leon Powe scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and sophomore guard Omar Wilkes added 22 points to lead Cal to a 116-53 victory over KK Jance of Slovenia Wednesday in Treviso, Italy.
The game was the second of five international contests the Bears will play during their 12-day visit to northern Italy. Cal meets a team from Trieste Thursday, then faces Liegi in Chisa Saturday and Casalpusterlengo Monday.
The Bears won their opening game, 111-66, over Ge-Mart of Reggio Emilia Tuesday.
Against KK Jance, junior guard Ayinde Ubaka chipped in 16 points and dished out nine assists for the second straight night. Sophomore center DeVon Hardin finished with 16 points and nine boards, complementing Powe on the inside.
The Bears piled on the points despite arriving at their hotel in nearby Venice at 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. After waking up, they had a walking tour of the city, including stops at Piazza San Marco, the Grand Canal and the Rialto bridge.
When it was time to leave for the game, the team boarded a water taxi that took them to their bus to Treviso. The Bears were happy to have some Cal support at the game, as a family of Bear fans drove over from Rome to see them play.
